Avedon portraits american west5/30/2023 As the title of this series suggests he spent the years traveling across the western United States. “American West” was a commission by the Amon Carter Museum in Forth Worth, Texas. So I’ve decided to look into the Avedon’s American West series in more detail to discover why he photographed complete strangers. However I’m still working upon the context of the project which has became a complex issue. Although I’m still working on this idea, and within this six week project I’m currently looking at other more legal methods such as imagine alteration. No one has taken it a set further by actually going back into the public domain like the street and physically fly postering the portraits. Although it’s been done to death before and a thousand photography students before me have looked at Avedon and his American West series for inspiration. When I first started to pre-visualise my idea, the notion of photographing people on the street did sound promising. Billy Mudd, Trucker, Alto, Texas, May 7, 1981
